What is Tone It Up?
Tone It Up is a fitness brand geared towards women, founded by trainers, Katrina Scott and Karena Dawn. It’s not a crash diet, gimmicky meal replacement shake, pill, or patch. It’s all about nourishing your body with REAL, WHOLE FOOD. They promote a healthy lifestyle through workout videos, nutrition plans, blogs, and an online community (#TIUteam). Check out www.toneitup.com for more.
“Our secret? Combining exercise with the right nutrients at the right time of day to boost energy levels and metabolism!”
How did you get into it?
Since I was 14, I struggled with anorexia and a poor relationship with food. Even after being free from my ED, I struggled to know how to nourish my body in a healthy way. I gained 20 pounds over the first year of my marriage. I made unhealthy meals (again, no nutritional knowledge) and ate portions like my husband.
I started to work out daily, but never saw results. I met with a nutritionist who told me to count calories. It messed with my head. I’d be starving, eat something, go over calories, and feel so guilty. I felt helpless. I cried to my husband telling him, “I honestly don’t know what to do.”
A few weeks later, I stumbled across a company called, “Tone It Up,” on Instagram. They were kicking off the coming new year with an eight week challenge. I printed the plan that day, said, “enough,” and promised myself I would give it my all.
I followed the plan almost to a “T” and could not believe how amazing I felt – inside and out! Following their nutrition plan changed my life. I lost 20+ pounds, developed a passion for cooking, as well as learning about nutrition, gained so much confidence, energy, freedom from constant headaches, stomach pains, oh yeah, and now I run freaking MARATHONS.
As I began following the TIU Nutrition Plan, I also created a fitness Instagram account for accountability purposes (@belovedtiu). The online community has been key in keeping me motivated and on track! I’ve met some of the most beautiful, incredible people (and friends) through this account!
How much does it cost?
I believe around $120-150. The only price I currently see on their site is $150 with a bundle of workouts. This may change. I will update this.
Here’s the thing, what you get for $150 is incredible. I honestly would pay even more. When you become a member, you are a member FOR LIFE. You only pay once. Then, whenever a plan is updated or a new challenge released, you are automatically sent a new PDF at no extra cost. When you initially join, you are sent a nutrition plan guidebook that’s essentially an educational textbook on TIU’s holistic approach to nutrition, a recipe book with 100+ pages, as well as 8+ meal plans filled with additional recipes (also known as challenges – “Bikini Series,” “Look for Love,” etc.) that lay out five, small meals a day for anywhere from three to eight weeks. Following these meal plans was most beneficial to me at the start of my fitness journey!
What is the nutrition plan like?
Tone It Up is not focused on calorie counting, but on fueling with your body with nutrient-dense, whole foods. Meals are centered around lean protein, clean ingredients, and lots of greens. That’s my favorite aspect of Tone It Up. They aren’t telling you to drink their shake mix, take this pill, etc. for it to work. They lay out how to nourish and fuel your body with real food, the way I believe God intended us to. The TIU Nutrition Plan literally taught me how to cook. Check out their website for tons of free #TIUapproved recipes covering breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and even desserts!
What are the workouts like?
Their workouts are typically between 10 and 30 minutes long. Strength training is typically lower weight with higher repetitions style sets. When I first joined, I loved following their weekly workout schedule on their website. For a beginner who had no idea what she was doing, this was super helpful to make sure I balanced what types of workouts I was doing each week.
Karena and Katrina have such positive personalities that make workouts always fun. You’ll never hear them say, “Lose that _______!” They say things like, “Let’s tone those beautiful arms! Work that booty, girl!” The uplifting take has been so healthy for my mindset. They have free videos on Youtube to check out as well!
Nowadays, I don’t typically follow Tone It Up workouts. They were perfect for me as I began my journey, but now I’ve truly found my fitness niche. I love running, heavy weightlifting, and Crossfit!
What is their protein like?
Tone It Up sells a clean ingredient, plant-based protein. I always use their protein for healthy baking, such as: donuts, pancakes, and muffins! You can find it at your local Target or on their website.
These are frequently asked questions I get about Tone It Up. Please feel free to message me if you have any others!
Love it girl! I’ll be sending girls this article when they ask me these same questions !!
